THE STORY

Early years 30, André Wauters and his wife Marie Bron create the IPSA company, a factory that manufactured small leather goods, fancy belts, comb cases, powder compacts, … IPSA participates in the transition from leather to plastic via materials such as galalith, the ancestor of plastic, and imitation leather.

In the years 50, the company is growing. More than 100 people work in the manufacture of office supplies such as plastic files and filing cabinets. The company declines over the years 70 with the oil crisis.

Suzanne the daughter of André and Marie as well as her two daughters Sophie and Delphine, all three in the theater, convert the family business into a place devoted to art that we naturally call "l'Usine". Spaces are rented there to artists like Tapta, who designs sculptures in black industrial rubber, and Alain Crabeels who sculpts stone as a philosophy of life.

In 2015, Suzanne Wauters sells l'Usine to the Crabeels family, who authentically renovate it while keeping the original industrial spirit, with the intention of developing new human adventures there.
